- Nearpod - is a classroom tool for teachers to engage students with interactive lessons & assessments that students can access on any device.
- Khan Academy - Learn for free about math, art, computer programming, economics, physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, finance, history, and more with interactive lessons and video.
- Classkick App (on iPad) - Give students more feedback than ever! Classkick is a magic whiteboard that students work on and get help instantly from their teacher and peers.
- Schoology - is an innovative learning management system (LMS) and social network that makes it easy to create and share academic content.
- Cacoo - is very user-friendly and versatile. It is a free online diagram tool for creating sitemaps, flowcharts, mind maps, wireframes, mockups, UML models, and etc.
- Padlet - a virtual wall that allows people to express their thoughts on a common topic easily. It works like an online sheet of paper where people can put any content (e.g. images, videos, documents, text) anywhere on the page, together with anyone, from any device.
- Google Earth - lets you fly anywhere on Earth to view satellite imagery, maps, terrain, 3D buildings, from galaxies in outer space to the canyons of the ocean.
Creativity & Innovation
- AV Rover - The 3D AVRover integrates the best in hardware, software, and content for a truly remarkable 3D learning experience. The 3D AVRover is certain to inspire students and enhance lessons. This tool maybe a little pricey, but its definitely worth a talk with your department head. Bring a cell lesson to life! What's more engaging than a 3D virtual tour of the organelles in a cell. I've seen it for myself.
- EduCanon - EduCanon allows you to use video to differentiate & engage, and promote self-paced learning with pause & rewind. It has a teacher-friendly interface. Teachers can customize existing online content to the needs of their students. This would be great when showing lengthy videos for case studies. Embedding questions where main points are can drive discussion of the studies and open the floor for brainstorming.
- ThingLink - ThingLink is an interactive media platform. Use it to create interactive news photography, maps, posters, family albums, infographics, and etc. You can keep track of how people interact with your content as it spreads across the web. ThingLink interactive images help students develop 21st century skills and enrich their enthusiasm for learning. This tool is available on multiple platforms in the classroom as (iPad, iPhone and Android), and the they offer educator discounts. This tool is neat for e-learning in Biology. I can embed content in images and videos.
- BookTrack - Book Track is a free tool that enhances both reading and writing by incorporating music. Students can create soundtracks for plays, poems, stories, or even their own creative writing, and share their creations with the world. Scientific current events and articles can be enhanced with this tool! No longer do we have to hand out a printed article and ask the student to tell us what they think. Now, students can add media to a digital article to explain their thoughts. What a way to promote creativity!
- Listen Current - Listen Current has real world public radio stories that span the curriculum. Students listen to fascinating stories featuring authentic academic language. Listen Current provides the necessary scaffolding such as interactive transcripts, reduced speed audio, close listening strategies and more. This tool helps with differentiation in the Biology classroom. Biology students can listen and learn how today's problem solvers in our field are approaching challenges step by step, then create their own alternatives!
